Adult Volunteer Vacancies

We are always looking for the right people to join us on our journey at 5th Risca. Whether you can spare a few hours at home, a few hours on the weekend, or even coming along to our sectional meetings, there are many ways that we can use your skills and enthusiasm.

If you think you can help us out in any way, please get in touch by filling in the Adult Application Form

Most roles will involve the need for vetting such as DBS checks and references, and all roles will involve some Adult Training.

Here are a few ideas of the types of roles that we are presently looking for that right person to fill:

Equipment Manager (Quartermaster)

At 5th Risca we have recently bought some really nice new tents. But being a Scout Group using our present hall since 1970, we have picked up quite a few bits and pieces over the years, some of which will be really useful, some things will need a bit of TLC, some things will just need to be recycled, and inevitably there will be things that have just got lost over the years that we had forgotten about.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working alone, with the time and energy to spend a few hours in our hall sorting through our equipment and building an inventory of our treasures! A head for heights would be useful as some of our storage cupboards require ladders to access them, and it would also be useful if you know your way around some tools so that you can have a go at minor repairs to some of our things.

On an ongoing basis, you will be the person in charge of our equipment, ensuring that we have the equipment that we need (clean and ready to go) for our adventures, telling us off when we break things or leave them in a dirty condition, but reporting to the Group Executive Committee when items need repairing or replacing.

Reports to: Group Chair
Training: Module 1 and GDPR

Pack Assistant (Cub Scouts)

Cubs absolutely LOVE getting new badges, and so we need as many adults as possible to help them to get those badges. So if you are comfortable running a game with our Cubs or happy to help them in their small groups, please get in touch so that we can have a discussion about how you might be able to help!

Reports to: GSL (although day-to-day work will be with the Cub Scout Leader)
Training: Modules 1, 3, First Aid and GDPR

Section Leaders (New Sections)

5th Risca is quite a popular group, and whilst we have a smashing team of Section Leaders now, our waiting list continues to grow to the point where we could really do with spreading our wings a little and running a second set of Sections. So if you think you might be able to start up a new Squirrel Drey, Beaver Colony, Cub Pack or Scout Troop at 5th Risca, please get in touch, as we would love to weigh up the options!

Reports to: GSL
Training: Modules 1 - 19 (excl. 4) - a combination of courses and elearning

Section Leaders (Squirrels)

5th Risca would love to set up a Squirrel Drey but we need leaders!  If you are interested in leading the first Squirrel Drey in Risca then please get in touch - we will support you on this exciting new adventure.

Reports to: GSL
Training: Modules 1 - 19 (excl. 4) - a combination of courses and elearning

Group Chair (Executive Committee)

5th Risca needs someone to help run the Executive Committee and work closely with the Group Scout Leader to make decisions and help to support the activities within the sections.  This role can be done remotely and would suit someone who is organised and proactive

Reports to: GSL
Training: Module 1 ,GDPR, Safety, Safeguarding and Trustee Introduction
